As the city of Surrey continues its rapid development, planning for long-term and sustainable energy use will remain a priority. One way that the city of Surrey is facing this challenge head-on is by developing a central district energy system in the heart of its West Village community.
District energy systems are designed to efficiently supply heat and hot water to residential, commercial, and institutional buildings in the city centre. Surrey’s system is powered by a number of alternative sources including organic waste, solar, biomass, waste heat from buildings, and geothermal exchange.
The centre is being built not only as a functional facility but as a part of a park, with interpretive/educational components.
